Election Day is Tuesday, and many college students across New York have been choosing whether to vote in person or mail in their ballots. At a few colleges upstate, students will have a rare third option: to vote on campus.

Young voters are poised to play a major role in this year’s presidential election. For many first-time voters every presidential election they can remember has been “the most important.”

Throughout this week, WAMC is hearing from voters across the Northeast as the election looms. In Massachusetts, there are plenty of big ticket items on the ballot for voters to consider – the presidential contest, a challenge to a sitting senator and multiple ballot questions. But down the ballot in a pocket of Hampden County is one of the state’s few competitive races.

With the election less a week away, America is divided — and voters in the Northeast are no exception.

All this week, WAMC is featuring the voices of Northeast voters as the election nears. In July, Pittsfield, Massachusetts played host to a rare visit by Vice President Kamala Harris just after she become the Democrats’ nominee. But not everyone in Berkshire County’s largest community is ready to back Harris.

This year, as North Country residents commemorate a War of 1812 victory, they were also pondering the future of the country as the presidential election nears.
