At a library inside the New York State Museum in Albany, shelves are filled with an array of reading materials. But the resources inside this library are more than what meets the eye.

The Schenectady City School District is facing scrutiny after the mother of an elementary school student made a Facebook post accusing the district of inaction after she was sent a photo of a school staff member putting a foot on her child’s back.

In April, the National Endowment for the Humanities, a federal entity, rescinded several grants, citing concerns about the spending not inspiring “public confidence in the use of taxpayer funds.” Months later, Albany nonprofits are still working to bridge that funding gap.
