He recently retired from Louisiana State University where he was a Professor of History and author of 'The Passions of Andrew Jackson,' 'Jefferson’s Secrets,' and numerous other books on American politics and culture. He is a Thomas Jefferson scholar, and he is the author of the new book 'Being Thomas Jefferson: An Intimate History.'
