Sports Report: Stanley Cup Finals Start; Game 7 For NBA's West Conference

NHL:

The Stanley Cup finals start tonight. The San Jose Sharks will see the Pittsburgh Penguins at 8 p.m. for Game 1.

MLB:

In baseball, in the American League, Boston beat Toronto 5-3 in 11 innings, the Yankees edged Tampa Bay 2-1, Baltimore bested Cleveland 6-4, Kansas City won against the White Sox 5-4, Houston defeated the Angels 8-6 in 13 innings, Oakland doubled up Detroit 4-2, and it was Minnesota over Seattle 5-4.

In National League, the Dodgers doubled up the Mets 4-2, Miami won against Atlanta 7-3, Arizona beat San Diego 6-3, San Francisco topped Colorado 8-3, the Cubs bested Philadelphia 7-2, Milwaukee won against Cincinnati 5-4, and it was Washington over St. Louis 10-2.

In interleague play, Texas tripled up Pittsburgh 6-2.

Car Racing:

American Alexander Rossi has won the 100th running of the Indianapolis 500, earning a victory for Andretti Autosport by running the final 36 laps without a pit stop. Rossi stretched his fuel to the finish before running out of gas after taking the checkered flag. Carlos Munoz finished second, followed by Josef Newgarden, Tony Kanaan and Charlie Kimball.

Martin Truex Jr. dominated in winning the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, setting NASCAR records with 392 laps and 588 miles led. Truex finished more than 2 ½ seconds ahead of Kevin Harvick, with Jimmie Johnson in third. The only time Truex gave up the lead was when he pitted and others stayed on the track.

NBA:

Game 7 of NBA’s Western Conference Finals is tonight. The Golden State Warriors take on the Oklahoma City Thunder at 9 p.m.

The Grizzlies have formally announced the hiring of former Miami assistant David Fizdale as their new coach and will introduce him at a news conference Tuesday. The Grizzlies did not disclose contract terms, but Yahoo! Sports reported Fizdale agreed to a four-year contract. Fizdale has spent the past eight years with the Miami Heat, the past two as assistant head coach to Erik Spoelstra.

PGA:

Jordan Spieth shot a 5-under 65 to win the Dean & Deluca Invitational at Colonial for the first victory in his home state of Texas. He closed with birdies on the final three holes for a 17-under total to finish three strokes ahead of Harris English, who shot a 66 on Sunday. It was the eighth career win for the world's No. 2-ranked player, and came in his third tournament since blowing a five-stroke lead on the back nine at the Masters last month.

Rocco Mediate shot a 5-under 66 to complete a wire-to-wire win at the Senior PGA Championship. Mediate finished with a 19-under par 266 to set a tournament mark for low 72-hole total. He was three strokes better than two-time defending champ Colin Montgomerie, who closed with a 67.

WNBA:

In the WNBA, Atlanta won against Indiana 85-76, Chicago beat Dallas 92-87, and it was Phoenix over Washington 93-77.

Tennis:

Defending champ Stan Wawrinka has reached the quarterfinals of the French Open with a 7-6, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 win over Viktor Troicki. The third seed will next face Albert Ramos-Vinolas, who upset 8th seed Milos Raonic 6-2, 6-4, 6-4.

Second seed Andy Murray ousted John Isner 7-6, 6-4, 6-3. Isner's exit means that no American man has reached the quarterfinals since 2003. Unheralded American Shelby Rogers is through to her first Grand Slam quarterfinal after beating Irina-Camelia Begu 6-3, 6-4. Fourth seed Garbine Muguruza also reached the quarters.

MLS:

Kevin Molino scored in second-half stoppage time to give Orlando City a 2-2 tie with New York City FC Sunday. NYC is winless in its two matches after going unbeaten in its previous five.

F1:

Lewis Hamilton has won the Monaco Grand Prix, ending an eight-race winless drought in Formula One. Pole sitter Daniel Ricciardo settled for second after a pit crew error cost him position. Nico Rosberg finished seventh to cut his lead in the points race to 24 over Hamilton.

Soccer:

Mexican soccer star Alan Pulido has been kidnapped in the northern border state of Tamaulipas. The 25-year-old forward for the Greek team Olympiacos was abducted by gunmen near his hometown of Ciudad Victoria after leaving a party. Federal and state officials have mounted an operation to find Pulido. Update: BBC reports that the soccer star has been found dead.

NCAA:

In men’s college lacrosse, No. 1 seed Maryland sees North Carolina in the championship game today at 1 p.m.

In women’s college lacrosse, No. 1 seed Maryland was upset by No. 3 North Carolina 13-7.
