Sports Report: Boston Gets 2024 U.S. Olympic Bid

NBA:

In the NBA, Houston topped New York 120-96, Portland bested Miami 99-83, and it was Charlotte over Toronto 103-95.

NHL:

Over on the ice, the Rangers trumped Los Angeles 4-3, Boston blanked New Jersey 3-0, Philadelphia edged Washington in overtime 3-2, Carolina topped Buffalo 5-2, Chicago doubled up Minnesota 4-2, Nashville skated past Dallas in overtime 3-2, St. Louis bested San Jose 7-2, Colorado defeated Ottawa 5-2, Arizona topped Winnipeg 4-1, and it was Florida over Vancouver 3-1.

NFL:

On Saturday in the NFL Playoffs, Baltimore is in New England to take on the Patriots at 4:35 then later Carolina is up against Seattle at 8:15. On Sunday, Dallas will take on Green Bay at 1:05, and finally the Indianapolis will see Denver at 4:40.

Jury selection is set to begin in the murder trial of former New England Patriots star Aaron Hernandez, who's charged with killing a semiprofessional football player in 2013. Hundreds of potential jurors are expected to report to Bristol County Superior Court in Fall River today for the first phase of jury selection. Jurors on Friday, Monday and Tuesday will fill out written questionnaires. Later next week, the judge will conduct individual questioning of jurors. Eighteen jurors will be selected. Among those who could be called as witnesses are Patriots coach Bill Belichick and team owner Robert Kraft. Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to killing Odin Lloyd, who was dating his fiancée's sister.

Olympics:

The U.S. Olympic Committee has chosen Boston to bid for the 2024 Games, selecting the city over Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington. Boston joins Rome as the only other city that has officially decided to bid, with Germany, France and Hungary also considering bids. The Summer Olympics haven't been hosted by the United States since the 1996 Atlanta Games.
