NFL:

On Thursday Night Football, Dallas takes the field in Chicago to take on the Bears at 8:25.

Two people familiar with the case tell The Associated Press that Adrian Peterson won't attend the conclusion of his suspension appeal hearing Thursday.

Peterson also skipped a disciplinary hearing at the league office last month before Commissioner Roger Goodell suspended him for the rest of the season for violating the league's personal conduct policy. The 2012 NFL MVP hasn't played for the Minnesota Vikings since Week 1 after he was charged with child abuse in Texas.

NFL executive Troy Vincent is scheduled to testify on Thursday, according to someone who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because neither side is discussing the case publicly.

In his 19 seasons as an NFL head coach, Tom Coughlin of the New York Giants hasn't had one like this. It's not the losses that make this season different. It's the injuries. With a month left in the regular season, the Giants have placed 19 players from their active roster on injured reserve and another one from their practice squad on the list.

Horse Racing:

NYRA’s chairman Dr. David Skorton announced yesterday that he will step down from the position effective December 31st.

NCAA:

In men’s college basketball, Holy Cross rallied to beat the University at Albany Great Danes 74-57 last night. Vermont topped Hartford 81-69, UMass Lowell bested NJIT 71-67.

In women’s college basketball, Sacred Heart bested Vermont 76-66.

MLB:

The Atlanta Braves have acquired another starting outfielder by agreeing with Nick Markakis on a four-year deal worth a reported $44 million. Markakis hit .290 with 141 homers and 658 RBIs in nine seasons with the Baltimore Orioles. He's expected to replace outfielder Jason Heyward, who was traded to St. Louis last month.
