Sports Report: British Open Is Underway, All Eyes On Tiger

The 143rd British Open is underway at Royal Liverpool in Hoylake, England.
This is the third major of the year. Bubba Watson won the Masters back in April before Martin Kaymer won the U.S. Open last month. Each will be after his second major title of the year.
Tiger Woods and defending champ Phil Mickelson are among the other big names looking to contend this year.
The New York Racing Association is changing the policy for its popular giveaways at Saratoga Race Course. NYRA says track visitors will be permitted to purchase two additional vouchers at a time to redeem for the giveaway. Giveaway day attendance figures were inflated by the thousands by those who "spun" the turnstiles multiple times to get the freebies but didn't stay for the races. Saratoga’s season starts tomorrow.
Lance Stephenson has parlayed his finest NBA season into a new contract with the Charlotte Hornets after four years with Indiana. A person familiar with the contract says Stephenson has agreed to a three-year, $27 million deal with the Michael Jordan-led team, a package that includes a team option for the third season. Stephenson averaged 13.8 points, 7.2 rebounds and 4.6 assists a game for the Pacers last season.
The New York Rangers have agreed to terms with free agent forward Matthew Lombardi. The 32-year-old Lombardi had 20 goals and 50 points in 46 games in Switzerland last season, leading his team in goals and assists, and tied for sixth in the league in goals. Lombardi has 101 goals and 262 points in 536 NHL games.
UConn's athletic director Warde Manuel says he opposes the idea of unions for college athletes, but sees the need to provide students on athletic scholarships with additional money. Manuel also tells The Associated Press that he doesn't believe schools should be allowed to profit from the likeness of a specific athlete "in perpetuity."
