Sports Report: Jozy Altidore To Miss Game With Germany

World Cup:

In World Cup action, England scored a draw with Costa Rica 0-0, Uruguay edged Italy 1-0, Greece defeated the Ivory Coast 2-1, and Colombia beat Japan 4-1.

The United States will be without veteran striker Jozy Altidore for Thursday's key match with Germany. He'll miss a second straight match due to a strained left hamstring he suffered in the opening win against Ghana. U.S. coach Jurgen Klinsmann says that if the Americans qualify for the knockout stage, there's a good chance Altidore will be back.

The NBA's upcoming free-agent market will include LeBron James.

His agent confirms that the Miami Heat forward has decided to opt out of the final two years of his contract and become a free agent next Tuesday.

The decision does not mean James has decided to leave the Heat. He could decide to re-sign with the team or move on to another club. James is expected to meet with teammates Dwyane (dwayn) Wade and Chris Bosh to discuss the future. Both may decide to opt out of their deals as well.

James had two years and about $42.7 million remaining on his deal with the Heat. In his four seasons in Miami, the Heat have gone to the NBA Finals four times, winning two championships. He joins Carmelo Anthony who opted out of his contract on Monday.

In baseball, in interleague play, the Mets blew out Oakland 10-1, Pittsburgh edged Tampa Bay 6-5, Atlanta slid past Houston 3-2, the Dodgers blanked Kansas City 2-0, and Arizona bested Cleveland 9-8 in 14.

In the American League, Toronto bested the Yankees 7-6, Seattle topped Boston 8-2, the White Sox doubled up Baltimore 4-2, Detroit beat Texas 8-2, and it was the Angels over Minnesota 8-6.

In the National League, Philadelphia trumped Miami 7-4, the Cubs defeated Cincinnati 7-3, Washington doubled up Milwaukee 4-2 in 16, Colorado defeated St. Louis 10-5, and it was San Diego over San Francisco 7-2.

The College World Series finals have been stretched to the limit. Virginia has forced a third and final game by trouncing Vanderbilt 7-2.

In the WNBA, Washington topped San Antonio 81-70, and Los Angeles bested Seattle 65-57.
