Sports Report: NBA And NHL Playoff Action; Obama In Cooperstown Today

NBA:

In the NBA playoffs, the San Antonio Spurs blew by the Oklahoma City Thunder 112-77 to take a 2-0 advantage in the Western Conference final. Tony Parker led the way with 22 points. Danny Green added 21 on seven 3-pointers. Tim Duncan contributed 14 points and 12 boards in just 29 minutes of action.

NHL:

In the NHL playoffs, the L.A. Kings scored six unanswered goals in rallying from a two-goal deficit to stun the Chicago Blackhawks 6-2 to even that Western Conference final at a game apiece. Five of those goals came in the final period, including three by Jeff Carter.

The Rangers play Montreal tonight at 8 p.m.

MLB:

In baseball, in interleague play, the Yankees beat the Cubs 4-2 in 13, Pittsburgh edged Balitmore 9-8, and Minnesota shut out San Diego 2-0.

In the American League, Toronto bested Boston 6-4, Oakland defeated Tampa Bay 3-2, Kansas City beat the White Sox 3-1, Texas topped Seattle 4-3, Cleveland edged Detroit 11-10 in 13, and it was the Angels over Houston 2-1.

In the National League, the Dodgers trumped the Mets 4-3, Cincinnati slid past Washington 2-1, Milwaukee won against Atlanta 6-1, Miami blew out Philadelphia 14-5, St. Louis bested Arizona 3-2 in 12, and San Francisco defeated Colorado 5-1.

President Obama will travel to Cooperstown New York today, where he will discuss tourism at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum. Yesterday Obama met with Super Bowl winners, the Seattle Seahawks to commend their achievement.

WNBA:

In the WNBA, Chicago beat Connecticut 78-68.

NASCAR:

Wendell Scott has become the first African-American driver to be elected to the NASCAR Hall of Fame.

The late driver from Virginia is among the latest group of five voted in the hall. Scott is joined by popular NASCAR champion Bill Elliott, two-time series champ Joe Weatherly, 1960 champion Rex White and 26-time race winner Fred Lorenzen.
