Sports Report: The Rangers Move On To Second Round

The Los Angeles Lakers are the latest team in need of a head coach. Mike D'Antoni has resigned after less than two seasons at the post. He went 67-87 with the Lakers, including a 27-55 mark this season.

In the NBA playoffs, San Antonio beat Dallas 109-103 bringing it to a 3-2 series lead for the Spurs, Toronto squeaked by Brooklyn 115-113 giving the Raptors a 3-2 series lead, and Houston outshot Portland 108-98 rocketing them to a 3-2 series lead.

In the NHL playoffs, the New York Rangers defeated Philadelphia 2-1 and have earned their spot against the Pittsburgh Penguins in the conference semifinals. The Rangers are now 6-0 in Game 7s at Madison Square Garden. Los Angeles outscored San Jose 5-1 to advance to the second round. The Kings are the fourth team to come back from a 3-0 deficit to win a seven-game series. The Kings move on to play the Anaheim Ducks next. Minnesota skated past Colorado 5-4 in overtime sending the Wild to the conference semifinals against the defending Stanley Cup champion, the Chicago Blackhawks.

The AHL team out of Abbotsford, British Columbia, affiliate of the Calgary Flames, is set to move to Glens Falls, according to WNYT’s Mark Mulholland. The city had been seeking a replacement for the Adirondack Phantoms who ended their temporary five-year stay last month.

In baseball, in the interleague, the Dodgers beat Minnesota 6-4 for their 10,000th franchise win, Washington shut out Houston 7-0. The Pittsburgh at Baltimore game was postponed due to rain.

In the American League, Kansas City doubled up Toronto 4-2, the Angels defeated Cleveland 7-1, Oakland blew out Texas 12-1, and Detroit trumped the White Sox 5-1. The Seattle at Yankees and Tampa Bay at Boston games were both postponed due to rain. The Red Sox will make up the game in a double-header later today.

In the National League, St. Louis tripled up Milwaukee 9-3, Miami topped Atlanta 9-3, the Cubs edged Cincinnati 9-4, Arizona slid past Colorado 5-4 in 10, and it was San Francisco over San Diego 3-2. The Mets at Philadelphia game was postponed due to rain.
