Sports Report: NBA Calls News Conference Over LA Clippers Owner

The NBA has called a news conference later today to make an announcement about the investigation involving the owner of the LA Clippers, Donald Sterling, and a set of racially charged comments attributed to him.

Sterling is being investigated over allegations he made racially charged comments in a recorded conversation released over the weekend by TMZ and Deadspin.

The players' union has asked Commissioner Adam Silver to rule quickly, preferably before the Clippers play host to Golden State in the fifth game of their playoff series Tuesday night. Mark Jackson, coach for the Warriors, called on fans to boycott Game 5 of the series, going on to say that he believes it would be the loudest statement fans could make.

In the NBA playoffs, Miami outshot Charlotte 109-98 for a series sweep of the first round, Atlanta squeaked by Indiana 107-97 bringing the Hawks to lead the series 3-2, and it was San Antonio over Dallas 93-89 tying the series at 2.

In the NHL playoffs, Minnesota beat Colorado 5-2 tying the series at 3, Pittsburgh defeated Columbus 4-3 moving the Penguins on to the conference semifinals, Los Angeles skated past San Jose 4-1 tying the series at 3. Just three teams in NHL history have won a playoff series after dropping the first three games. The Los Angeles Kings have put themselves in position to become the fourth.

Game 6 is tonight for the New York Rangers, they will play at Philadelphia at 7:30 p.m.

In the American League, Oakland beat Texas 4-0, the White Sox defeated Tampa Bay 7-3, the Angels bested Cleveland 6-3. The New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox both had a day off.

In the National League, Milwaukee topped St. Louis 5-3 in 12, Colorado trumped Arizona 8-5, San Diego slid past San Francisco 6-4. The Cubs at Cincinnati game was postponed due to rain. The New York Mets had a day off.
