Sports Report: The LA Clippers Protest Owner Donald Sterling's Racial Comments

Clippers owner Donald Sterling has been accused of making discriminatory racial comments in an audio recording released by TMZ. In the recording the man speaking urges his girlfriend not to bring black friends to Clippers games. The NBA and the Clippers are investigating the accusations, including whether the male voice on the recording is in fact Sterling's.

Before the start of the game the Clippers ran out of the tunnel wearing their warm-up uniforms. They huddled together at center court and tossed their warm-ups to the floor and went through their pregame routine with their red Clippers' shirts on inside-out to hide the team's logo.

In the NBA playoffs, Toronto bested Brooklyn 87-79 tying the series at 2, Golden State defeated the Clippers 118-97 tying the series at 2, Washington beat Chicago 98-89 giving the Wizards a 3-1 series lead, Portland outshot Houston in overtime 123-120 giving the Trail Blazers a 3-1 series lead.

In the NHL playoffs, the Rangers skated past Philadelphia 4-2 to give them a 3-2 series lead, Anaheim beat Dallas in overtime 5-4 moving the Ducks to the conference semifinals, and Chicago defeated St. Louis 5-1 for the series win. The Boston Bruins won their series and will see Montreal next in the conference semifinals.

Jockey Alex Solis, trainer Gary Jones, and champion racehorses Ashado and Curlin have been elected to the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame in the contemporary category. The electees will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on Friday, Aug. 8 at 10:30 a.m. at the Fasig-Tipton sales pavilion.

In baseball, in the interleague, San Francisco beat Cleveland 4-1.

In the American League, Toronto bested Boston 7-4, The Yankees defeated the Angels 3-2, Kansas City topped Baltimore 9-3, Houston trumped Oakland 5-1, the White Sox blew out Tampa Bay 9-2, and Seattle edged Texas 6-5.

In the National League, the Mets shut out Miami 4-0, Philadelphia slid past Arizona 2-0, Colorado beat the Dodgers 6-1, the Cubs beat Milwaukee 4-0, San Diego defeated Washington 4-2, and it was Atlanta over Cincinnati 1-0 in 10.
