Sports Report: Turning Stone Resort Named Home Of 2016 PGA Tournament

Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, NY will be the host site for the 2016 PGA Professional National Championship. The 312-player Championship will be conducted June 26-29th, 2016.

In the NBA playoffs, Indiana beat Atlanta 101-85, Toronto out shot Brooklyn 100-95, Washington squeaked by Chicago in overtime 101-99.

San Antonio's Gregg Popovich was named NBA's coach of the year yesterday making him the third coach in NBA history to win three times. Popovich led the Spurs to a league-best 62-20 record, ensuring them home-court advantage throughout the playoffs.

In the NHL playoffs, Montreal skated past Tampa Bay 4-3, making the Canadiens are the first team to advance to the NHL's conference semifinals after completing a sweep of Tampa Bay. Boston shut out Detroit 3-0, the Rangers bested Philadelphia 4-1, and San Jose beat Los Angeles in overtime 4-3.

In baseball, in interleague play, the Angels beat Washington 7-2.  Albert Pujols has become the 26th player in major league history to belt 500 career homers, and the third-youngest to reach the milestone. The 34-year-old Pujols also became the first player to hit his 499th and 500th home runs in the same game, doing it in the Los Angeles Angels' 7-2 win over Washington.

In the American League, Toronto defeated Baltimore 9-3, Detroit topped the White Sox 8-6, Tampa Bay edged Minnesota 7-3, Kansas City trumped Cleveland 8-2, Texas slid past Oakland 5-4, and it was Houston over Seattle 5-2. The Yankees bested Boston 9-3, in the first of a 3 game series, Jacoby Ellsbury provided a triple and a two-run double while scoring twice in his return to Boston. Ellsbury received a mixture of boos and applause in his first game at Fenway Park since leaving the Bosox for a free-agent contract with the Yankees.

In the National League, St. Louis beat the Mets 3-0, Philadelphia defeated the Dodgers 3-2 in 10, Miami slid past Atlanta 1-0, the Cubs blew out Arizona 9-2, San Diego trumped Milwaukee 2-1 in 12, Colorado edged San Francisco 2-1, and it was Cincinnati over Pittsburgh 4-1.

Major League Baseball has suspended four players involved in last Sunday's brawl between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Milwaukee Brewers. Milwaukee catcher Martin Maldonado has been suspended for five games while outfielder Carlos Gomez will sit out three. Pittsburgh outfielder Travis Snider will miss two games, with Russell Martin suspended for one game.

The NFL is slated to release the 2014-15 season schedule tonight.
