The 118th running of the Boston Marathon was completed without incident yesterday and featured the first U.S. citizen in 31 years to win the event.
Former New York City Marathon champion and Olympic medalist Meb Keflezighi won in a time of 2 hours, 8 minutes, 37 seconds.
Mike Woodson was fired as coach of the New York Knicks. Woodson has been let go in the first official move under recently-hired president Phil Jackson. The dismissal comes after the team finished 37-45 and failed to make the playoffs, just a year removed from an Atlantic Division title. Steve Kerr, a leading candidate to replace him, said later in the day on his weekly SiriusXM NBA Radio show, that he expects to hear from Jackson soon.
In the NBA playoffs, Memphis beat Oklahoma City in overtime 111-105, and the Clippers topped Golden State 138-98. Both the Grizzlies and the Clippers managed to even their quarterfinal series to a game apiece.
In the NHL playoffs, Minnesota skated past Colorado in overtime 1-0, Pittsburgh defeated Columbus 4-3, Chicago outshot St. Louis 2-0, and Dallas shut out Anaheim 3-0.
In baseball, in interleague play, the Angels beats Washington 4-2.
In the American League, Baltimore bested Boston 7-6, Cleveland defeated Kansas City 4-3, the White Sox topped Detroit 3-1, Texas trumped Oakland 4-3, It was Houston over Seattle 7-2.
In the National League, the Mets edged St. Louis 2-0, Philadelphia shut out the Dodgers 7-0, Pittsburgh slid past Cincinnati 6-5, Atlanta trumped Miami 4-2 in 10, the Cubs bested Arizona 5-1, Milwaukee defeated San Diego 4-3, and it was Colorado over San Francisco 8-2.
Manchester United confirmed that David Moyes has been dismissed as manager. Moyes replaced Sir Alex Ferguson last summer, but he has been relieved of his duties after Sunday’s 2-0 defeat which left the club unable to qualify for the Champions League.
The Oakland Raiders have traded away the final player drafted by late owner Al Davis. Oakland dealt quarterback Terrelle Pryor to the Seattle Seahawks on Monday for a seventh-round pick in next month's draft.
The Bengals have exercised a 2015 contract option for receiver A.J. Green and will now focus on an extension for quarterback Andy Dalton. Green was the fourth overall pick in the 2011 draft and was entering the final season on his deal. He had 1,426 receiving yards last year, trailing only Chad Johnson's club record of 1,440 yards.
