Sports Report: Union Parade; Chad Johnson Joins CFL

The Union College skating Dutchmen got to celebrate their NCAA title victory with a parade in Schenectady yesterday after Saturday’s landmark win.

Former NFL receiver Chad Johnson is heading to the Canadian Football League. The 36-year-old, also known as Chad Ochocinco has signed a two-year contract with the Montreal Alouettes. The former Pro Bowler last appeared in an NFL game during the 2011 season with New England.

The American Hockey League’s Adirondack Phantoms’ last home game is tonight at the Glens Fall Civic Center. The Phantoms are moving to Allentown, Pennsylvania.

In baseball in the American League, the Yankees blew out Tampa Bay 10-2 and turned in the first triple play of the season, Boston bested the White Sox 3-1, Minnesota topped Toronto in a doubleheader 7-0 in the first, 9-5 in the second, Kansas City trumped Houston 5-1, Texas slid past Seattle 8-6, and Detroit edged Cleveland 7-5.

In the National League, Philadelphia beat Atlanta 1-0, the Dodgers defeated San Francisco 2-1, Colorado trumped San Diego 3-1, Pittsburgh blew out Milwaukee 11-2, and St. Louis shut out Washington 8-0. The New York Mets were off.

In the first round of the NHL playoffs, the Rangers beat Philadelphia 4-1, Colorado skated past Minnesota 5-4 in overtime, and it was San Jose over Los Angeles 6-3. In the longest game in St. Louis Blues history, Alexander Steen scored at 26 seconds of the third overtime to give the Blues a 4-3 victory over the defending Stanley Cup champion the Chicago Blackhawks.
