WAMC Sports Report: NCAA Championship Games Set

The stage for the men’s NCAA championship game has been set. No. 7 UConn goes head to head with No. 8 Kentucky, tonight at 9:10 p.m. on CBS. UConn trumped No.1 Florida 63-53 for its spot in the title game, and the Wildcats advanced to the championship when they edged No. 2 Wisconsin 74-73.

The two undefeated teams in the NCAA women’s basketball tournament have made it to the championship game. No. 1 UConn will see No. 1 Notre Dame Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. on ESPN. Notre Dame beat No. 4 Maryland for its spot 87-61, and UConn topped No. 2 Stanford 75-56 for its seat at the title game.

Over the weekend, Siena beat Fresno State 81-68, to take home the CBI title.

In the NBA, Miami beat New York, 102-91, the Clippers defeated the Lakers 120-97, Atlanta topped Indiana 107-88, Dallas bested Sacramento 93-91, Houston outshot Denver in overtime 130-125, San Antonio beat Memphis 112-92, Portland edged New Orleans 100-94, Phoenix trumped Oklahoma City 122-115, and it was Golden State over Utah 130-102.

In Interleague play, Milwaukee completed a three-game sweep over Boston 4-0.

In the American League, the Yankees bested Toronto 6-4, Minnesota trumped Cleveland 10-7, Baltimore out hit Detroit 3-1, Texas shut out Tampa Bay 3-0, Houston slid past the Angels 7-4, The White Sox edged Kansas City 5-1, and it was Oakland over Seattle 6-3.

In the National League, Cincinnati defeated the Mets 2-1, San Diego beat Miami 4-2, Washington trumped Atlanta 2-1, Pittsburgh topped St. Louis 2-1, the Cubs edged Philadelphia 8-3, Arizona won against Colorado 5-3, and it was the Dodgers over San Francisco 6-2.

In the NHL, Columbus blanketed the Islanders 4-0, Florida skated past Dallas 3-2, Philadelphia beat Buffalo 5-2, Chicago edged St. Louis 4-2, Edmonton doubled up Anaheim 4-2, and it was Pittsburgh over Colorado in a shoot out 3-2.
