WAMC Sports Report: NCAA Final Four Starts Saturday

Minnesota squeaked by SMU in the championship game for the NIT, 65-63. The CIT’s title belongs to Murray State which defeated Yale 65-57.

The NCAA tournament starts back up this weekend when No. 1 Florida takes on No. 7 UConn on Saturday at 6:09 p.m. on TBS. Right afterwards, No. 8 Kentucky goes head to head with No. 2 Wisconsin at 8:49 p.m. also on TBS.

The women’s NCAA tournament starts on Sunday when the undefeated No.1 Notre Dame sees No. 4 Maryland at 6:30 p.m. on ESPN. Later at 9 p.m. Sunday on ESPN, the unbeaten No. 1 UConn plays No. 2 Stanford for its spot in the championship game.

Siena plays the final game of the CBI tournament against Fresno State on Saturday at 11:30 a.m. in Siena’s ARC.

In the American League, The Yankees bested Houston 4-2 for their first win of the season, Boston topped Baltimore 4-3 thus winning its first series, Tampa Bay edged Toronto 7-2, Minnesota beat the White Sox 10-9, and Oakland defeated Seattle 3-2 in 12.

In the National League, Washington out hit the Mets 8-2, The Cubs trumped Pittsburgh 3-2, St. Louis bested Cincinnati 7-6, Miami defeated Colorado 8-5, and it was San Francisco over Arizona 8-5.

Over in professional hoops, Oklahoma City squeaked by San Antonio 106-94 ending a 19 game streak, and Dallas beat the Clippers 113-107.

In NHL, Colorado skated past the Rangers 3-2 in a shoot out, Toronto beat Boston in overtime 4-3, St. Louis defeated Buffalo 2-1, Columbus shut out Philadelphia 2-0, Calgary edged Tampa Bay 4-1, Chicago outshot Minnesota in a shoot out 3-2, Pittsburgh trumped Winnipeg 4-2, and it was San Jose over Los Angeles 2-1.
