WAMC Sports Report: Nationally Ranked No. 1 Union College Hockey

After winning their third straight ECAC championship over the weekend, Union College is the No. 1 hockey team in the nation for the first time in school history, according to the U.S. College Hockey Online poll released today. The Skating Dutchmen (28-6-4), unbeaten in their past 13 games, received 31 of the 50 first-place votes.

In the CBI tournament, Siena outshot Penn State for a 54-52 victory. Siena will see Illinois State at 7:00PM on Wednesday.

In women’s college basketball, the undefeated No. 1 UConn will go head to head with No. 9 Saint Joseph’s at 7:05PM tonight on ESPNU. No. 3 Kentucky bested No. 6 Syracuse 64-59.

In the NBA, New Orleans beat Brooklyn in overtime 109-104, Houston defeated Charlotte 100-89, Phoenix bested Atlanta 102-95, Miami slid past Portland 93-91, Oklahoma City topped Denver 117-96, Chicago out shot Indiana 89-77, Memphis trumped Minnesota 109-92, San Antonio edged Philadelphia 113-91, it was Detroit over Utah 114-94, the LA Clippers defeated Milwaukee 106-98.

In the NHL, the NY Rangers bested Phoenix 4-3 in overtime, Los Angeles beat Philadelphia 3-2, Montreal squeaked by Boston in a shoot out 2-1, Dallas edged Winnipeg 2-1, Ottawa slid past Tampa Bay in a shoot out 4-3, it was Calgary over San Jose in a shoot out 2-1.

In baseball spring training, Philadelphia beat Toronto 6-3, the LA Angels defeated San Francisco 11-4, and the New York Mets bested St. Louis 5-3.

Former New York Jets quarterback, Mark Sanchez who was released on Friday is expected to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles. The New York Jets signed quarterback Michael Vick, alongside star wide receiver Eric Decker.
