Villanova Could Lose No. 1 Seed

In top 25 men’s college basketball: It's one and done for the top seed in the Big East tournament. Regular season champ Villanova saw its hopes for a No. 1 seed in the NCAA tournament field damaged when it lost to Seton Hall 64-63.

No. 4 Arizona beat Utah 71-39, No. 5 Louisville blew out Rutgers 92-31, No. 8 San Diego St. out shot Utah St. 73-39, No. 10 Kansas defeated Oklahoma St. in overtime 77-70, No. 13 Cincinnati slid past UCF 61-58, No. 14 Creighton topped DePaul 84-62, No. 16 Iowa St. beat Kansas St. 91-85, Baylor squeaked by No. 17 Oklahoma 78-73, It was No. 21 UConn over No. 19 Memphis 72-53, No. 20 New Mexico edged Fresno St. 93-77, No. 24 Ohio St. beat Purdue 63-61, and Houston topped No. 25 SMU 68-64.

In the region the UAlbany men’s basketball team takes on home team Stony Brook tomorrow at 11:30AM.  The game will be televised live on ESPN2. The women’s basketball team will find out who they are up against during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, March 17th at 7 p.m. The show will be broadcast live on ESPN.

Over on the ice, Minnesota beat the NY Rangers 2-1, Boston out shot Phoenix 2-1, Carolina doubled up Boston 2-1, Toronto trumped Los Angeles 3-2, it was San Jose over Columbus in a shoot out 4-3, Tampa Bay defeated Florida 5-4, and St. Louis topped Edmonton 6-2.

In the region Union will face against Dartmouth College in three playoff games this weekend starting tonight at 7PM in Schenectady.

In the NBA, Chicago beat Houston 111-87, Atlanta defeated Milwaukee 102-97, it was Oklahoma City over the LA Lakers 131-102.

After a hectic week in the NFL, Carolina has released all-time receiving leader Steve Smith after he spent 13 years with the team. Philadelphia has acquired running back and kick returner Darren Sproles from the New Orleans Saints for a fifth-round draft pick. New England Patriots defensive tackle, Vince Wilfork, asked to be released from his contract after refusing to renegotiate for a lower salary.
