Philadelphia Sends Knicks To Fifth Straight Loss In 110-106 Victory

In the NBA, Evan Turner scored a career-high 34 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading Philadelphia to a 110-106 victory over New York sending the Knicks to their fifth straight loss.

Elsewhere, the Celtics broke a 10-game road losing streak with a 113-111 win over the Wizards. It was Atlanta over Orlando 112-109. Chicago beat Cleveland 98-87. Toronto defeated Dallas 93-85. Charlotte won against the Clippers 95-91. Milwaukee topped Detroit 104-101. Oklahoma City had a 111-105 victory over San Antonio. Houston passed Sacramento 119-98 and Phoenix beat Indiana 124-100.

Fourth-seed Li Na has reached the women's finals at the Australian Open by dominating 30th-seed Eugenie Bouchard of Canada 6-2, 6-4. She’ll face Dominka Cibulkova.

In top 25 college basketball, No. 5 Wichita St. beat Illinois St. 70-55. Seventh-ranked San Diego St. defeated San Jose St. 75-50. It was Minnesota over No. 9 Wisconsin 81-68. No. 21 Michigan had a 75-67 victory over No. 10 Iowa. Twelfth-ranked Louisville beat South Florida 86-47. Richmond defeated No. 13 UMass 58-55. No. 18 Duke topped Miami 67-46. Nineteenth-ranked Saint Louis downed Duquesne 76-72 and No. 25 Oklahoma had a 77-69 victory over TCU.

Elsewhere, Saint Rose had a 94-92 win over Saint Michael's in Albany.

In women’s college basketball, top-ranked Connecticut snatched their 20th win of the season, with an 83-49 victory over Memphis.

In the NHL, Pittsburgh topped Montreal 5-1. It was Detroit over Chicago 5-4 in a shootout and Calgary beat Phoenix 3-2.

The Yankees have secured the services of highly-prized Japanese pitcher Masahiro Tanaka. Club co-chairman Hank Steinbrenner says the team has agreed to a $155 million, seven-year contract with the right-hander.

Outfielder Grady Sizemore has agreed to a $750,000, one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox.

Finally, Central Connecticut has hired New Haven football coach Pete Rossomando to lead its football program.
