UAlbany Struggles In 66-60 Win Over Binghamton

In college basketball, Peter Hooley scored 17 points to lead Albany over Binghamton 66-60 on Monday.

Meanwhile, the UAlbany women’s team also defeated Binghamton in a 66-36 blowout game.

Creighton defeated No. 4 Villanova 96-68. Eighth-ranked Kansas won against No. 24 Baylor 78-68 and it was Nebraska over No. 17 Ohio St. 68-62.

Checking the NBA scoreboard, Joe Johnson scored 25 points and the Brooklyn Nets sent the Knicks to their fourth straight loss with a 103-80 victory. The Nets improved to 7-1.

Dallas won against Cleveland 102-97. The Clippers topped Detroit 112-103. Washington held on for a 107-99 win over Philadelphia. Charlotte beat Toronto 100-95. New Orleans knocked off Memphis 95-92. Atlanta defeated Miami 121-114. The Bulls beat the Lakers 102-100 in overtime. Houston had a 126-113 victory over Portland and Golden State fell to Indiana 102-94.

It will be Li Na against Eugenie Bouchard in one of the two women's semifinals at the Australian Open. The fourth-seeded Li advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 win over No. 28 Flavia Pennetta. Bouchard rallied for a 5-7, 7-5, 6-2 win over No. 14 Ana Ivanovic, who was fresh off a fourth-round win against Serena Williams.

In the NHL, Boston beat Los Angeles 3-2. The NY Islanders overcame Philadelphia 4-3 in a shootout. Toronto doubled up Phoenix 4-2 and San Jose topped Calgary 3-2.

Finally, if some Jamaicans you know seem extra happy this week and you are hearing music from the 1993 film Cool Runnings, that’s because a fundraising effort to send the Jamaican Bobsled team to the Winter Olympics in Sochi has been successful. The team received word Saturday that it had qualified for the event but didn’t have enough money to fund the trip.
