Broncos and Seahawks Headed To Super Bowl

It will be the Seattle Seahawks taking on the Denver Broncos in Super Bowl 48 at the Meadowlands.

Peyton Manning threw for 400 yards and two touchdowns as Denver beat New England 26-16 to win the AFC championship. The Broncos had to settle for four Matt Prater field goals, but the drives allowed them to control the ball for almost 36 minutes and keep the Patriots' offense off the field.

Meanwhile, the Seahawks are NFC champions for just the second time in team history following a 23-17 comeback win over San Francisco. The Seahawks didn't take their first lead of the game until Russell Wilson threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Jermaine Kearse with 13:44 remaining.

In tennis, women's third seed Maria Sharapova was ousted in the fourth round of the Australian Open, falling to Dominika Cibulkova 3-6, 6-4, 6-1. Second seed Victoria Azarenka remained on track for a third consecutive Australian Open title, reaching the quarterfinals with a 6-3, 6-2 win over American Sloane Stephens.

Top-ranked Serena Williams was knocked out in the fourth round on Sunday.

In the NBA, it was Orlando over Boston 93-91. The Lakers defeated Toronto 112-106. San Antonio had a 110-82 victory over Milwaukee. Oklahoma City beat Sacramento 108-93 and Denver fell to Phoenix 117-103.

In college basketball, No. 14 Iowa topped Minnesota 94-73. Siena fell to Iona 88-74 and tonight UAlbany takes on Binghamton at SEFCU Arena.

In women’s college basketball, No. 1 UConn crushed No. 23 Rutgers 94-64. UConn has won 25 straight games.

In the NHL, Chicago beat Boston 3-2 in a shootout. Tampa Bay defeated Carolina 5-3 and the NY Rangers knocked off Washington 4-1.
