UAlbany Men Fall To Drake 71-63 In Des Moines

Host Drake University outscored the University at Albany men’s basketball team 11-4 in the final three minutes to pull away for a 71-63 nonconference victory at in Des Moines, Iowa, Monday night. A 3-pointer from DJ Evans with 4:12 remaining pulled the (6-6) Danes to 60-59, but in the end Drake improved its record to 8-3.

Meanwhile, the Siena Saints had a 67-59 victory against Hofstra at Times Union Center. Junior Rob Poole, freshman Lavon Long and freshman Maurice White each scored 14 points to lead the Saints.

No. 1 Arizona defeated N. Arizona 77-44 and fourteenth-ranked Iowa St. beat Akron 83-60.

In the NBA, the Pacers Pacers cruised to a 103-86 win at Brooklyn. The Pacers have won three straight and own the NBA's best record at 23-5.

Carmelo Anthony had 19 points before leaving the game with a sprained left ankle in the third quarter, but the Knicks won 103-98 against Orlando.

Detroit beat Cleveland 115-92. Charlotte topped Milwaukee 111-10 in overtime. Miami defeated Atlanta 121-119 in overtime. Dallas won against Houston 111-104. Memphis beat Utah 104-94. San Antonio knocked off Toronto 112-99. Golden State defeated Denver 89-81. Phoenix edged the Lakers 117-90 and Sacramento fell to New Orleans 113-100.

In the NFL, NaVorro Bowman returned an interception 89 yards for a game-clinching touchdown with 1:10 remaining to give the San Francisco 49ers a 34-24 victory over Atlanta and an NFC playoff berth in the final regular-season game at Candlestick Park.

It doesn’t look good for Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo. He’ll miss the rest of the season because of a back injury.

Checking news on the ice, Buffalo topped Phoenix 2-1 in overtime. Boston beat Nashville 6-2. The NY Rangers beat Toronto 2-1 in a shootout. The NY Islanders blanked Detroit 3-0. Philadelphia beat Minnesota 4-1. Anaheim defeated Washington 3-2. Columbus took Carolina 4-3. Ottawa shut out Pittsburgh 5-0. Tampa Bay beat Florida 6-1. Chicago knocked off New Jersey 5-2. Winnipeg fell to Edmonton 6-2 and Dallas had a 5-2 victory over Los Angeles.
