San Diego Hands Denver First Home Loss Of The Season

In the NFL, Philip Rivers threw for two touchdowns and Ryan Mathews ran for 127 yards as San Diego handed Denver its first home loss of the season. Mathews carried 29 times and scored on a 23-yard run that put the Chargers ahead 24-10 early in the third quarter. Peyton Manning threw for 289 yards and two TDs for the Broncos, who had the ball for just over 21 minutes and fell to 11-3.

In college football, Florida State quarterback Jameis Winston has been selected as the Walter Camp player of the year and the recipient of the Davey O'Brien Award as the nation's top quarterback.

Alabama quarterback AJ McCarron has won the Maxwell Award, given to college football's player of the year.

In the NBA, Andray Blatche and Joe Johnson each had 21 points as the Nets cruised to their season-high third straight win, 102-93 over the Los Angeles Clippers.

Elsewhere, LaMarcus Aldridge scored 31 points and grabbed a career-high 25 rebounds in the Blazers' 111-104 win over Houston.

Checking news on the ice, Columbus doubled up the NY Rangers 4-2. Phoenix won against the NY Islanders 6-3. Boston knocked off Edmonton 4-2.  It was Philadelphia over Montreal 2-1. Ottawa beat Buffalo 2-1. Tampa Bay defeated Detroit 2-1 in a shootout. Colorado topped Winnipeg 4-3 in a shootout. Nashville beat Dallas 3-1. St. Louis defeated Toronto 6-3. Calgary beat Carolina 2-1 in overtime and Minnesota fell to San Jose 3-1.
