With high-wind advisories posted for a broad section of the state, upstate New York utilities are bracing for power outages and urging customers to prepare.
The National Weather Service says winds from the southwest at 30 to 40 mph, with gusts to 60 mph, are expected through this evening. A high wind warning is posted for central New York, and wind advisories for the entire WAMC listening area.
National Grid released a statement saying it's "closely monitoring" the situation and has made arrangements to have crews in the field quickly to respond to outages.
Mark Lynch, president of NYSEG and RG&E, said the utility's employees across the state are on "heightened alert."
