Are You Ready Red Sox Fans?

The World Series gets underway with Game 1 tonight at Fenway Park. The Boston Red Sox host the St. Louis Cardinals. Left-hander Jon Lester will get the start for the Red Sox, while righty Adam Wainwright will head to the hill for the Cardinals. First pitch is at 8:00 p.m.

Meanwhile, Mets pitcher Matt Harvey has undergone Tommy John surgery that will cause him to miss the 2014 season.

Tim Lincecum is staying put with the San Francisco Giants after reaching an agreement on a two-year $35 million contract extension through the 2015 season.

University of Miami's football team will lose nine scholarships and the men's basketball team will lose three, as part of the penalties the school was handed by the NCAA as the Nevin Shapiro booster scandal presumably drew to a close.

Even though the NCAA said Miami lacked "institutional control" when it came to monitoring Shapiro, the university is accepting the decision and does not plan to appeal.

Elsewhere, Jackson State announced its plan to sue Grambling State for the forfeited homecoming game last week. Jackson State had to refund money for thousands of tickets that were sold when Grambling State players staged a boycott and walked off the field.

In the NHL, Vancouver defeated the NY Islanders 5-4 in overtime. Columbus passed New Jersey 4-1. Toronto doubled up Anaheim 4-2. Chicago took Florida 3-2. Edmonton bested Montreal 4-3. Minnesota shut out Nashville 2-0. Washington won against Winnipeg 5-4 and it was Phoenix over Calgary 4-2.

Finally in the NFL, after a terrible debut performance Monday night as the Vikings starting quarterback, Josh Freeman will get another chance to start Sunday night. Freeman’s his lack of experience with his receivers showed in a 23-7 road loss to the previously winless New York Giants.
