Rays Stave Off Elimination, Geno Smith Saves Jets

In baseball, Tampa Bay’s extended their season by at least one game. Jose Lobaton belted a two-out, walkoff solo homer in the bottom of the ninth to complete the Rays' comeback in a 5-4 win over the Boston Red Sox. The blast allowed Tampa Bay to pull within two games to one in the American League Division Series and force a Game 4 tonight in St. Petersburg.

Meanwhile, the Los Angeles Dodgers became the first team to reach this year's League Championship Series, thanks to a dramatic home run.

Juan Uribe belted a two-run shot in the bottom of the eighth to give the Dodgers a 4-3 victory over Atlanta in Game 4 of the division series.

The Redbirds managed to stretch their series to a deciding fifth game after beating Pittsburgh 2-1.

Oakland has a two-games-to-one lead in their series after doubling up Detroit 6-3.

In the NFL, Geno Smith is becoming a comeback kid for the New York Jets. The Jets blew a 13-point lead in the fourth quarter before Nick Folk hit a 43-yard field goal as time expired to give New York a 30-28 win over the Falcons in Atlanta. Smith engineered an eight-play, 55-yard drive right after Matt Ryan hit Levine Toilolo for a three-yard touchdown with 1:54 left to put Atlanta ahead 28-27.

Smith was 16 of 20 for 199 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. He had no turnovers after entering the game with a league-high 11 in his first four games.

The Buffalo Bills are going with quarterback Thad Lewis for Sunday’s game against Cincinnati. Rookie EJ Manuel has a sprained right knee.

Checking NBA preseason action, Toronto topped Boston 97-89. Miami bested Atlanta 92-87. It was Chicago over Memphis 106-87. New Orleans beat Dallas 94-92. The Clippers edged Portland 89-81 and Sacramento fell to Golden State 94-81.

In hockey, the NY Rangers passed Los Angeles 3-1 and New Jersey fell to Edmonton 5-4 in a shootout.
