Red Sox Crush Baltimore In Boston

In baseball, two teams in the American League in the thick of things in the East met Tuesday night in Boston, and the Red Sox destroyed Baltimore 13-2. Shane Victorino led the way with two home runs and a career-high seven runs batted in.

Despite losing Robinson Cano to an injury in the first inning, the Yankees downed the Blue Jays 7-1. Alfonso Soriano hit two home runs and Alex Rodriguez smacked the 651st of his career in the win. Oakland doubled up Detroit 6-3. Tampa Bay fell to the Angels 6-5. The White Sox edged Houston 4-3. Kansas City passed Minnesota 6-1 and Texas defeated Seattle 4-3 in 10 innings.

Checking the National League, the Mets blanked Cincinnati 5-0. The Mets have placed pitcher Matt Harvey on the 15-day DL with a partial tear of an elbow ligament. The Pittsburgh Pirates have acquired outfielder Marlon Byrd and catcher John Buck from the Mets for a minor leaguer and player to be named later.

Washington beat Miami 2-1. Milwaukee won against Pittsburgh 7-6. St. Louis trumped Cincinnati 6-1. San Francisco beat Colorado 5-3. Arizona edged ahead of San Diego 10-9 in 10 innings and it was the Cubs over the Dodgers 3-2.

In interleague play, Atlanta shut out Cleveland 2-0.

In tennis, American Victoria Duval stunned 2011 U.S. Open champion Sam Stosur in the tournament's first round. The 17-year-old qualifier, ranked 296th, won 5-7, 6-4, 6-4.

Also winning was Victoria Azarenka and Men's top-seed Novak Djokovic.

Finally, New York Giants receiver Victor Cruz expects to play in the regular-season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. He said the only time his injured heel hurts is when he gets out of bed in the morning.
