Napoli's 11th Inning Homer Help Sox Take Yankees 8-7

In baseball news, Mike Napoli homered with two outs in the 11th inning — his second of the game — and the Red Sox beat the Yankees 8-7 on Sunday night.

Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez won’t be ready to rejoin the team any time soon. The team said in a statement that Rodriguez has a Grade 1 strain of his left quadriceps muscle.

Elsewhere in the American League, Tampa Bay beat Toronto 4-3. Cleveland topped Minnesota 7-1. Detroit slid by Kansas City 4-1. Seattle cruised ahead of Houston 12-5. Oakland shut out the Angels 6-0 and Baltimore doubled up Texas 4-2.

In the National League, Matt Harvey struck out 10 in seven overpowering innings to help the Mets to a 5-0 victory over the Philadelphia. It was Pittsburgh over Cincinnati 3-2. The Dodgers defeated Washington 9-2. Milwaukee blanked Miami 1-0 in 13 innings. St. Louis beat San Diego 3-2. Arizona outscored San Francisco 3-1 and the Cubs fell to Colorado 4-3.

In golf news, Phil Mickelson put on a masterful back-nine charge to shoot a tournament-low 5-under 66 and win the British Open.

In other sports news, Wired Bryan won the $200, 000 Sanford Stakes for 2-year-olds Sunday at Saratoga Race Course, taking a clear lead at mid-stretch and beating Southern Blessing by 5¼ lengths.

In the $100,000 Fiddlers Patriot Stakes, Strong Impact defeated Tightened Touchdown, paying $24.40 to win.

In soccer, the United States cruised past El Salvador 5-1 to advance to the semifinals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup.

Finally, Britain's Chris Froome is the winner of the 100th Tour de France.
