Cespedes Wins Home Run Derby

In baseball news, Yoenis Cespedes of the Oakland Athletics won the Home Run Derby. He edged Washington's 20-year-old Bryce Harper 9-8 in the final round of the eight-player competition.

In tonight’s All-Star game, the Mets' Matt Harvey will be the starting pitcher for the National League and Detroit's Max Scherzer for the American League. Harvey becomes the first pitcher from the host team to start an All-Star game since Houston's Roger Clemens in 2004 and just the 11th overall.

Also at tonight’s game, Major League Baseball is planning to announce new policies against harassment and discrimination based on sexual orientation.

In other baseball news, Alex Rodriguez went 2 for 4 with a 400-foot home run in his first rehab appearance with Double-A Trenton. Rodriguez played seven innings in Monday night’s game.

In the NBA, four days after being waived by the Lakers, Metta World Peace says he'll be signing with the New York Knicks. The 6-foot-7 forward will still be paid the $7.7 million that was owed to him by the Lakers. World Peace has averaged 14.1 points and 4.7 rebounds during his 14-year NBA career.

Knicks guard J.R. Smith had surgery on his left knee that likely will keep him from joining the Knicks when they open training camp in late September.

In the NFL, Pittsburgh Steelers All-Pro center Maurkice Pouncey has apologized for wearing a baseball cap that read "Free Hernandez.” The former New England Patriots tight end is charged with murder.

Finally, after a day off at the Tour de France, today's 16th stage is a 104-mile, medium mountain stage event. Britain's Chris Froome remains the overall leader by 4 minutes, 14 seconds.
