Ortiz Passes Baines For Hits By DH In Boston's 11-4 Win

In baseball news, Boston's David Ortiz has passed Harold Baines to become Major League Baseball's career leader in hits by a designated hitter. Ortiz collected his 1,689th hit in his first at-bat and also homered in the Red Sox' 11-4 rout of Seattle.

The Yankees ended their three-game slide. Robinson Cano hit a three-run homer, Lyle Overbay added a grand slam and the Yankees snapped out of their offensive funk with an 8-1 victory over the Royals. Fox Sports is reporting Derek Jeter will make his season debut today with the Yankees as they host Kansas City.

And the Mets completed their first sweep in San Francisco since 1994 with a 7-2 win over the Giants.

Elsewhere in the American League, it was Baltimore over Texas 6-1. Right-hander Yu Darvish has been placed on the 15-day disabled list by the Texas Rangers and will miss the All-Star Game next week. Toronto topped Cleveland 5-4. Detroit passed the White Sox 8-5 and Tampa Bay outlasted Minnesota 4-3 in 13 innings. The Rays' winning streak is now seven.

Checking the National League, the Dodgers beat Arizona 7-5 to complete a three-game sweep. Los Angeles has won 15 of 18 to move within 1 1-2 half games of the NL West lead. Miami beat Arizona 6-2. Milwaukee fell to Cincinnati 6-2. Washington beat Philadelphia 5-1 and Colorado won against San Diego 5-4.

In interleague play, Pittsburgh blanked Oakland 5-0. The Angels cruised ahead of the Cubs 13-2 and St. Louis beat Houston 5-4.

In the NBA, the Knicks acquired Andrea Bargnani from Toronto for center Marcus Camby and forwards Steve Novak and Quentin Richardson.

Finally, German rider Tony Martin won the 11th stage of the Tour de France.
