Red Sox Struggle In Loss To Tampa Bay

In baseball news, Desmond Jennings hit two of Tampa Bay's four homers in an 8-3 thumping of Boston. Jon Lester served up three gopher balls and was lifted after Matt Joyce's two-run blast put the Rays ahead 7-3 in the fifth.

Elsewhere in the American League, Oakland won 6-4 over the Yankees. CC Sabathia allowed six runs and eight hits in six innings. The Angels fell to Baltimore 3-2. Cleveland topped Texas 5-2. Detroit won against Kansas City 3-2. Toronto edged ahead of the White Sox 7-5 and Seattle blanked Houston 4-0.

In the National League, St. Louis cruised ahead of the Mets 9-2. It was Pittsburgh over San Francisco 8-2. Miami beat Milwaukee 5-4. Cincinnati blew out the Cubs 12-2. The Dodgers bested Arizona 5-3 and San Diego topped Atlanta 3-2.

In interleague play, it was Minnesota over Philadelphia 3-2.

Moving over to the NBA, the Spurs set a finals record for three-pointers made, going 16-for-32 to post a 113-77 pounding of the Miami Heat. Game 4 is Thursday in San Antonio, where the Heat have won just three times in 26 tries.

About 1,000 Boston Bruins fans cheered on their team before players boarded a plane headed for Chicago yesterday to meet the Blackhawks in the Stanley Cup finals. Game 1 is tonight in Chicago.

Finally in soccer news, the United States took over first place in its World Cup qualifying group after winning 2-0 over Panama.
