Mets Win 9-4 Over Yankees In Subway Series

Well, the Mets have done it again.

In the major leagues, Infielders Ike Davis and Ruben Tejada sparked a five-run first inning that kept the Mets sailing along in this Subway Series with a 9-4 victory over the Yankees on Wednesday night.

Elsewhere, Philadelphia defeated Boston 4-3. The Cubs won against the White Sox 9-3. Cleveland beat Cincinnati 5-2. Pittsburgh beat Detroit 5-3. Baltimore passed Washington 9-6. Miami fell to Tampa Bay 3-1. Toronto blanked Atlanta 3-0. Minnesota outscored Milwaukee 4-1. St. Louis trumped Kansas City 5-3. Houston doubled up Colorado 6-3. The Angels edged ahead of the Dodgers 4-3. San Diego beat Seattle 3-2. That game lasted 10 innings. Lastly, it was Oakland over San Francisco 9-6.

In the NHL playoffs, Chicago ousted Detroit 2-1 in the Western Conference semifinals. The Hawks will host the first two games of the Western Conference finals against Los Angeles.

The New York Rangers fired coach John Tortorella after five seasons and with one year left on his contract.

The Post Star of Glens Falls is reporting that  the Glens Falls Common Council approved a measure to seek bids for an appraisal of the publicly owned Civic Center.

In boxing news, Floyd Mayweather announced that he will fight Mexican star Canelo Alvarez on Sept. 14.

In soccer news, Belgium doubled up the United States 4-2 in an international friendly.

Finally, Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will undergo back surgery in mid-to-late June.
