In the NBA playoffs, David West scored 20 points and the Pacers beat the Knicks 102-95 Sunday in Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Elsewhere, Oklahoma City held off Memphis 93-91. Kevin Durant scored 35 points.

In other NBA news, Miami Heat forward LeBron James is the NBA's Most Valuable Player for the second straight year and fourth time in his career. Lastly, the Brooklyn Nets general manager says P.J. Carlesimo will not return as coach. The Nets were eliminated from post season play in Game 7 of their first round series with Chicago. 

Checking NHL playoff action, Pittsburgh beat the NY Islanders 5-4. Ottawa blew out Montreal 6-1. Minnesota beat Chicago 3-2 and San Jose beat Vancouver 5-2.

Checking baseball news, in the American League, it was Oakland over the Yankees 5-4. Texas topped Boston 4-3. Minnesota doubled up Cleveland 4-2. Toronto cruised ahead of Seattle 10-2. Kansas City beat the White Sox 6-5. The Angels fell to Baltimore 8-4 and Detroit shut out Houston 9-0.

In the National League, Atlanta led the Mets 9-4. Washington won against Pittsburgh 6-2. St. Louis crushed Milwaukee 10-1. Cincinnati defeated the Cubs 7-4. Miami passed Philadelphia 14-2. San Diego outscored Arizona 5-1 and San Francisco won against the Dodgers 4-3.

Checking interleague play, Tampa Bay defeated Colorado 8-3.

In other sports news, the UAlbany men’s lacrosse team is headed to the NCAA tournament after capturing the America East Conference title winning 19-10 over UMBC on Saturday.

Finally, Orb won the 139th running of the Kentucky Derby on Saturday.
