WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

In the NBA playoffs, Jeff Green scored 18 points and the Celtics cut the Knicks' lead to 3-2 with a 92-86 victory Wednesday night. Kevin Garnett netted 16 points. The Celtics will host Game 6 on Friday night, needing two victories to become the first NBA team to overcome a 3-0 deficit to win a series. Elsewhere, it was Indiana over Atlanta 106-83. Oklahoma City fell to Houston 107-100. James Harden scored 31 points. Kevin Durant had a game-high 36 points.

Checking NHL playoff action, Boston won against Toronto 4-1. Pittsburgh shut out the NY Islanders 5-0 and San Jose defeated Vancouver 3-1.

In baseball news, checking the American League, the Yankees passed Houston 5-4. Robinson Cano hit a home run and Eduardo Nunez scored the tiebreaking run after a sixth-inning double. Elsewhere, the Red Sox routed the Blue jays 10-1. Clay Buchholz pitched seven shutout innings to earn his major league-leading sixth win. Mike Napoli hit two of Boston's five home runs. Minnesota beat Detroit 6-2. The Angels slid past Oakland 5-4. Texas lost to the White Sox 5-2. Kansas City edged ahead of Tampa Bay 9-8 and Seattle beat Baltimore 8-3.

In the National League, the Mets topped Miami 7-6. Pittsburgh bested Milwaukee 6-4. St. Louis doubled up Cincinnati 4-2. Washington shut out Atlanta 2-0. The Cubs overcame San Diego 6-2. San Francisco outscored Arizona 9-6 and Colorado beat the Dodgers 7-3.

Finally, checking interleague play, Cleveland shut out Philadelphia 6-0.
