WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

In the NBA playoffs, the Memphis Grizzlies have put themselves in position to wrap up their NBA first-round series at home on Friday. The Grizzlies held on to beat the Clippers 103-93 in Los Angeles. Elsewhere, the Nuggets held off the Warriors 107-100 to force a Game 6 in the NBA's Western Conference quarterfinal series In addition, the Celtics take on the Knicks tonight at 7:00 p.m.

Checking baseball news, in the American League, it was the Yankees over Houston 7-4. Kevin Youkilis has joined New York’s disabled list with a sprained back. Toronto beat Boston 9-7. Detroit beat Minnesota 6-1. Texas overcame the White Sox 10-6. Kansas City cruised ahead of Tampa Bay 8-2. Oakland defeated the Angels 10-6 and Baltimore bested Seattle 7-2.

In the National League, Miami won against the Mets 2-1. The Mets have lost a season-worst six games in a row. Atlanta cruised past Washington 8-1. San Diego beat the Cubs 13-7. Pittsburgh fell to Milwaukee 12-8. St. Louis topped Cincinnati 2-1. San Francisco bested Arizona 2-1 and the Dodgers won against Colorado 6-2.

Checking interleague play, Cleveland crushed Philadelphia 14-2.

Checking NHL playoff action, it was St. Louis over Los Angeles 2-1. Chicago defeated Minnesota 2-1 and Anaheim beat Detroit 3-1.

In other sports news, it may not be the kind of job he wants, but Tim Tebow has been offered employment with the Omaha, Neb. indoor football team, the Beef. His pay would be a bit less than in the NFL, $75 a game.
