In the NBA, Carmelo Anthony scored 34 points and the New York Knicks beat the Boston Celtics with an 87-71 victory on Tuesday night. Paul Pierce scored 18 points for the Celtics, who will host their third game on Friday. This will be Boston’s first home game since the Boston Marathon bombings. Elsewhere, Golden State rallied to beat Denver 131-117 and Miami defeated Milwaukee 98-86.

In baseball news, checking the American League, Ichiro Suzuki hit a go-ahead two-run single in the ninth inning and the Yankees beat Tampa Bay 4-3. Oakland beat Boston 13-0. Baltimore won against Toronto 4-3. Houston topped Seattle 3-2 and the Angels outscored Texas 5-4. Both the game between Kansas City and Detroit and Cleveland versus the White Sox were postponed due to rain.

In the National League, the Mets fell to the Dodgers 7-2. In a double header Atlanta beat Colorado 4-3 the first game and won again 10-2 in the second game. Pittsburgh shut out Philadelphia 2-0. St. Louis beat Washington 2-0. Milwaukee doubled up San Diego 6-3 and Arizona bested San Francisco 6-4.

Checking interleague play, in a double header, Miami fell to Minnesota 4-3 the first game then won 8-5 in the second game.

In the NHL, the New York Islanders clinched an Eastern Conference playoff spot despite a 4-3 shootout loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Florida won against the NY Rangers 3-2. New Jersey beat Montreal 3-2 and Philadelphia topped Boston 5-2.

In other sports news the Siena men's lacrosse team beat UAlbany 10-9.

With the NFL draft fast approaching, the Buffalo Bills general manager has hinted he’s keen to select a quarterback.
