WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

James Madison is celebrating its first NCAA tournament win in 30 years in a 68-55 win over LIU-Brooklyn in the First Four. The Dukes will face top-seed Indiana in the second round. La Salle beat Boise State 80-71. The 13th-seeded Explorers play fourth-seeded Kansas State on Friday. Montana faces Syracuse in San Jose at 9:57 p.m. and Harvard takes on New Mexico in Salt Lake City at 9:50 p.m.

Elsewhere in college hoops, President Obama is picking Indiana to win. He predicts Louisville, Ohio State and Florida will round out the Final Four.

In the NBA, the streaking Heat rallied from 27 down in the third quarter to shock Cleveland 98-95. LeBron James scored 25 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists.

Brook Lopez poured in 38 points and Deron Williams added 31 as Brooklyn blew past the Mavericks 113-96.

Carmelo Anthony returned to the Knicks line-up to score 21 points in a 106-94 win over Orlando.

Elsewhere, New Orleans barely defeated Boston 87-86. Charlotte beat Toronto 107-101. Atlanta won against Milwaukee 98-90. Memphis edged ahead of Oklahoma City 90-89. Houston topped Utah 100-93. San Antonio defeated Golden State 104-93. Washington outscored Phoenix 88-79 and the Clippers beat Philadelphia 101-72.

Checking the NHL, Toronto doubled up Tampa Bay 4-2. Colorado slid past Dallas 4-3 and Minnesota beat Detroit 4-2.

In baseball spring training action, the Yankees shut out Boston 4-0 and the Mets beat Houston 7-5.

Finally, the Yankees general manager says he doesn't know if injured captain Derek Jeter will be available to play on opening day.
