WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

In college basketball, No. 19 Syracuse beat No. 17 Pittsburgh 62-59 yesterday.

No. 24 Notre Dame beat 12th ranked Marquette 73-65.

Georgetown and Syracuse will meet in the Big East tournament for the 14th and final time today at Madison Square Garden. The Orange earned a berth in the semifinals of what will be their last Big East tourney before leaving for the ACC.

The other Big East semifinal will have fourth-ranked Louisville against No. 24 Notre Dame.

Elsewhere, fourth-ranked Louisville defeated Villanova 74-55. Fifth-ranked Georgetown beat Cincinnati 62-43. Sixth-ranked Michigan topped Penn St. 83-66. Seventh-ranked Kansas bested Texas Tech 91-63. No. 11 Kansas St. slid past Texas 66-49. No. 14 Oklahoma St. defeated Baylor 74-72. No. 18 Arizona finished ahead of Colorado 79-69 and No. 21 UCLA edged ahead of Arizona St. 80-75.

Also, both UAlbany basketball teams are playing for the America East Championship titles tomorrow. The UAlbany men take on Vermont 11:30 a.m. and UAlbany women host Hartford 7 p.m.

In the NBA, the Trail Blazers led the Knicks without Carmelo Anthony to a 105-90 victory. Anthony had fluid drained from the back of his right knee and is questionable for their game Sunday in Los Angeles.

Checking the NHL, Boston defeated Florida 4-1 and Winnipeg beat the NY Rangers 3-1.

In the World Baseball Classic, the Dominican Republic scored twice in the top of the ninth to beat the United States 3-1.
