WAMC Morning Edition Sports Update

In the NBA, Avery Bradley had a team-high 22 points, five assists and seven rebounds and the Celtics picked up their third straight win by beating the 76ers 109-101 in Philadelphia last night. Paul Pierce finished with 18 points and 11 rebounds as the Celtics pulled within 1 ½ games of Chicago and Brooklyn for fourth place in the conference. Oklahoma City downed the Lakers 112-105. Kevin Durant had 27 points for the Thunder, who tied a league record with no turnovers. Lakers guard Kobe Bryant ended up with 30 points after leaving the game with a right elbow injury in the first quarter. Denver defeated Sacramento 120-113. Jimmer Fredette played 12 minutes and scored four points.

Checking the NHL, Washington beat Boston 4-3. The NY Islanders doubled up Montreal 6-3. Detroit won against Colorado 2-1. Carolina beat Buffalo 4-3. Tampa Bay topped New Jersey 5-2. The Rangers doubled up Philadelphia 4-2. Florida bested Winnipeg 4-1. Chicago beat Minnesota 5-3 and San Jose defeated Vancouver 3-2.

In top 25 college basketball, 14th ranked Ohio St. beat second ranked Indiana 67-58. Third ranked Duke won against Virginia Tech 85-57. Ninth ranked Kansas St. beat TCU 79-68 and Notre Dame defeated St. John’s 66-40.

In baseball spring training action, the Yankees lost to Atlanta 2-0 and the Angels beat Cincinnati 6-4.

Finally, the Boston Red Sox beat Puerto Rico preparing for the World Baseball Classic 4-3. United States takes on Mexico Friday.
