Sales Tax Collections Up In Northern New York

Plattsburgh’s mayor says data on tax collections indicates an improvement in the region’s economic recovery.
The local sales tax collection report from the New York state Comptroller shows Clinton County is up in the first quarter of 2021 6.9% over the same quarter 2020.  The data shows a 25.7% increase in March 2021 over March 2020.

In a statement, Plattsburgh Mayor Chris Rosenquest calls the numbers a “major step towards local economic recovery” and “a clear indication that local people are shopping at local businesses.” The Democrat adds he hopes the numbers reflect a permanent shift in spending locally.

Essex and Franklin Counties also saw an increase in sales tax collections.
