NY-Alert: Sewage Discharged Into Mohawk River

nyalert.gov

The NY-Alert system announced a wastewater overflow at the City of Amsterdam Wastewater Treatment Plant. More than 500,000 gallons of partially treated discharge emptied into the Mohawk River after 3 a.m. Wednesday.

The discharge was stopped after 3.8 hours. Faulty equipment was blamed and the system is back online.

The alert says fishing and a drinking water supply intake were potentially impacted.

Update 4:30 p.m.: Officials from the Town of Colonie say their water was not affected by the spill.
