New York attorney general candidate Tish James says she’d take steps to fight corruption in state government if elected, even if it means going against her fellow Democrat, Governor Andrew Cuomo, who is backing James’ campaign.

During a recent visit to Saratoga Springs, James told Capitol Correspondent Karen DeWitt that Cuomo should not have shut down the Moreland Commission To Investigate Public Corruption in 2014.

Fellow Democrats: Congressman Sean Patrick Maloney, Leecia Eve and Zephyr Teachout are also seeking the post. Republican Keith Wofford and the Green Party’s Michael Sussman are also running.

Karen DeWitt is Capitol Bureau chief for New York State Public Radio, a network of public radio stations in New York state. She has covered state government and politics for the network since 1990.
