The mayor of North Adams, Massachusetts, says the city’s search for a new police chief is narrowing down.

Mayor Tom Bernard says three finalists remain: Detective Sergeant Jamie Berger of the Wayland, Massachusetts, police department; the North Adams Police Department’s own Lieutenant Jason Wood; and Captain Bryan Terzian with the Ridgefield, Connecticut, Police Department. Bernard says he wants someone who understands the community and can earn its trust – as well as someone he can communicate with clearly and directly.

“So that I know that I’m getting somebody who’s giving me both the best information and the best advice I can get, as well as someone who can understand my priorities and my interests,” said the mayor.

The new chief will replace Michael Cozzaglio, who retired this year after 32 years on the force.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
