Expenses Compel Clearwater To Replace Revival With Smaller Event

Feb 12, 2020

Hudson River Sloop Clearwater has announced it will hold a smaller event this year instead of its larger, annual music festival. This comes after the Beacon-based nonprofit incurred a financial loss after last year’s festival.

Clearwater Executive Director Greg Williams attributes the $190,000 loss from last year’s Great Hudson River Revival to many factors, including wet weather that resulted in low attendance on a Sunday. He says while working to keep Clearwater stable, and paying back festival vendors, it would be irresponsible to move forward with another million-dollar festival in June. Instead, a Clearwater Community Celebration will take place June 20th and 21st on a smaller portion of Croton Point Park in Westchester County. Clearwater expects to return to a full-scale Revival in 2021, re-envisioned as a sustainable, less commercial event.
