Donation Enables Abilities First School For Orange County

A property donation will allow a non-profit organization that serves students with intellectual and developmental disabilities to expand into Orange County.

That property is at the former Devitt’s Medical Arts building in New Windsor. It will be renovated into an educational facility to serve 40 students ages 5-to-21. Abilities First will open a temporary location in Cornwall-on-Hudson in the fall during renovations. The Abilities First School has locations in Dutchess County, in LaGrange and Red Hook, and they support 116 students from six Hudson Valley counties. The $3.2 million donation is the largest gift in the organization’s history. Managing partner of Monticello Motor Club Ari Straus and his father Dr. Marc Straus made the donation. The Straus Family Pavilion is slated to open in 2018.
