Delgado Intoduces Bill For Tax Relief For The Self-Employed

A New York congressman has introduced bipartisan legislation to provide tax relief for self-employed business owners.

Democratic Congressman Antonio Delgado introduced the Tax Fairness for the Self-Employed Act with Pennsylvania Republican John Joyce. The legislation would make changes to the tax code to level the playing field for self-employed small business owners by ensuring that these individuals can deduct their health insurance premiums as a business expense and continue to let them deduct costs from their individual income tax. Allowing the more than 1.7 million self-employed individuals in New York deduct their health care premiums as a business deduction would save each an average of $750 a year. Delgado says the bill especially would help farmers in his 19th District, and the New York Farm Bureau backs the legislation.
