Because of the spread of the coronavirus, Governor Andrew Cuomo said SUNY and CUNY campuses will move to a distance learning model on March 19 to limit the potential for exposure among students. The number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has risen to 212 in New York State. Thirty-five state residents have been hospitalized, no deaths have been reported.

“There will be some situations where they have programs that must happen on site, they’re doing a lab or something like that. But those are the exceptions. And those will be exceptions to avoid hardships. Otherwise they will be releasing for the rest of the semester to do distance learning, etc,” Cuomo said.

The governor also announced Wednesday that any quarantined state employees would receive paid leave.
