A longtime member of the Albany Common Council says he will not seek reelection next year.
Democrat Richard Conti of the 6th Ward, which includes downtown’s Center Square neighborhood, says he is making the announcement more than a year in advance so candidates who want to succeed him have enough time to get organized. Conti is an openly gay councilor who was first elected in 1997. He chairs the council’s Operations and Ethics committee.
My seat on the Albany Common Council from the 6th Ward is up for election next year. I do not plan to seek re-election in Nov. 2021 but fully intend to serve the remainder of my term which expires on Dec. 31, 2021. Details in the letter below! pic.twitter.com/EQwscpFJpB
