BCC To Screen Documentary On 2018 MA Gas Explosions

A group of state and local environmental groups are bringing a documentary about the 2018 Merrimack Valley Columbia Gas disaster to Pittsfield, Massachusetts. “Under Pressure” explores the natural gas industry and the impact of the chain of explosions that ripped through dozens of homes in Eastern Massachusetts. It was created by Greenfield’s Four Rivers Charter Public School class of 2019, and will be screened at Berkshire Community College tonight at 5:30 along with guest speakers. Rosemary Wessel, the program director for the Berkshire Environment Action Team’s No Fracked Gas In Mass program, spoke with WAMC about the film, ongoing legislative responses after the disaster, and what role fracking plays in the commonwealth.

Josh Landes has been WAMC's Berkshire Bureau Chief since February 2018, following stints at WBGO Newark and WFMU East Orange. A passionate advocate for Western Massachusetts, Landes was raised in Pittsfield and attended Hampshire College in Amherst, receiving his bachelor's in Ethnomusicology and Radio Production. His free time is spent with his cat Harry, experimental electronic music, and exploring the woods.
